Order deployment of troops to Borgu, emir begs Buhari

The Emir of Borgu, Niger State, Muhammad Dantoro, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to order the deployment of troops to Borgu, to check the activities of kidnappers and criminal elements. Reacting to the news on the kidnapping of the Dodo of Wawa, Dr. Mahmoud Ahmed in Borgu, he said that the call became necessary because the vast Borgu forest is the nucleus of the famous Kainji Lake National Park. ”This is an urgent appeal and call for immediate deployment of the military both on the air and ground to root out these insurgents,” he said. The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig.Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, on Monday, warned against lobbying done by corps members to get rejected during postings, adding that the orientation course was germane to the operations of the NYSC Scheme. Ibrahim made this disclosure during his virtual address to 2021 Batch B Stream II Prospective Corps Members and Camp Officials nationwide. According to him, the essence of the NYSC is for national unity and integration. “Corps members must not lobby to be rejected when posted to their places of primary assignment after the orientation course. “Choose and execute viable projects in your host communities in order to leave lasting legacies. Stop govs from signing anti-open grazing laws, Miyetti Allah urges National Assembly

The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Fulani Socio-Cultural Association has called on the National Assembly to intervene and stop attempts by some state governors to enact anti-open grazing laws targeted at Fulani pastoralists. The National Secretary of the association, Mr Saleh Alhassan, made the call at a National Peace Summit and Investiture of Queen Mother Amina Temitope Ajayi as the Miyetti Allah Brand Ambassador, held at Uke, Karu Local Government, Nasarawa State. Alhassan said the law would undermine the relative peace and stability currently enjoyed in the local communities, threaten the social order and exacerbated cattle rustling. He said the anti-open grazing laws would destroy livestock production and send into poverty millions of people that depend on the livestock value chain. COVID-19: Nigeria records 459 new cases in 18 states, Abuja

  Nigeria on Sunday recorded 459 new COVID-19 cases in 18 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control disclosed on Monday morning. The NCDC also reported 30 COVID-19 related deaths. The centre added that the new cases posted on Sunday, showed a drop from the 964 infections posted on Saturday. The centre said that Lagos led the infections chart with 185 cases, Abia and Oyo, 38 cases each. Others are Akwa Ibom and Cross River (33), Osun (24), Ekiti (23), Benue (15), Kwara (14), Kano (12), Delta, and the FCT (10), Edo (nine), Kaduna (five), Ogun (three), Kastina, Nasarawa , and Rivers reported (two), each, while Bayelsa recorded(one). The News Agency of Nigerians, reports that’s the number of Nigeria’s active coronavirus infections, however, declined from 10,026 as reported on Saturday to 8, 429 on Sunday.

ECOWAS condemns Guinea coup, wants president Conde released

  The Economic Community of West African States and has condemned the coup d’état that took place in the Republic of Guinea Conakry on Sunday. President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana condemned the action in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja. Akufo-Addo, who is also the Chair of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, said ECOWAS demands the immediate and unconditional release of President Alpha Condé as well as others arrested. “ECOWAS notes with great concern the recent political developments which occurred in Conakry, Republic of Guinea. FG to recover millions of naira wrongly paid to 588 doctors

  The Federal Government will recover millions of naira wrongly paid to 588 medical doctors across the country. Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, stated this when he fielded questions from State House correspondents in Abuja. He explained that affected doctors wrongly benefitted from Medical Residency Training Fund meant for a particular category of doctors. He said the names of the doctors were uncovered after a thorough scrutinisation of the 8000 names submitted by Chief Medical Directors of Federal Government health institutions for the training programme. The minister, however, revealed that a substantial amount of the money had been refunded by some of the affected doctors while efforts had been intensified to recover the remaining balance.
